    A Mobile Computing Architecture for Numerical Simulation

    The domain of numerical simulation is a place where the parallelization of numerical code is common. The definition of a numerical context means the configuration of resources such as memory, processor load and communication graph, with an evolving feature: the resources availability. A feature is often missing: the adaptability. It is not predictable and the adaptable aspect is essential. Without calling into question these implementations of these codes, we create an adaptive use of these implementations. Because the execution has to be driven by the availability of main resources, the components of a numeric computation have to react when their context changes. This paper offers a new architecture, a mobile computing architecture, based on mobile agents and JavaSpace. At the end of this paper, we apply our architecture to several case studies and obtain our first results

    SiN x : Tb 3+-Yb 3+, an efficient down-conversion layer compatible with silicon solar cell process Abstract Tb 3+-Yb 3+ co-doped SiN x down-conversion layers compatible with silicon Photovoltaic Technology were prepared by reactive magnetron co-sputtering. Efficient sensitization of Tb 3+ ions through a SiN x host matrix and cooperative energy transfer between Tb 3+ and Yb 3+ ions were evidenced as driving mechanisms of the down-conversion process. In this paper, the film composition and microstructure are investigated alongside their optical properties, with the aim of maximizing the rare earth ions incorporation and emission efficiency. An optimized layer achieving the highest Yb 3+ emission intensity was obtained by reactive magnetron co-sputtering in a nitride rich atmosphere for 1.2 W/cm2{}^2 and 0.15 W/cm2{}^2 power density applied on the Tb and Yb targets, respectively. It was determined that depositing at 200 {\textdegree}C and annealing at 850 {\textdegree}C leads to comparable Yb 3+ emission intensity than depositing at 500 {\textdegree}C and annealing at 600 {\textdegree}C, which is promising for applications toward silicon solar cells.Comment: Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells, Elsevier, 201

    A PALB2 mutation associated with high risk of breast cancer

    Introduction: As a group, women who carry germline mutations in partner and localizer of breast cancer 2 susceptibility protein (PALB2) are at increased risk of breast cancer. Little is known about by how much or whether risk differs by mutation or family history, owing to the paucity of studies of cases unselected for family history.Methods: We screened 1,403 case probands for PALB2 mutations in a population-based study of Australian women with invasive breast cancer stratified by age at onset. The age-specific risk of breast cancer was estimated from the cancer histories of first- and second-degree relatives of mutation-carrying probands using a modified segregation analysis that included a polygenic modifier and was conditioned on the carrier case proband. Further screening for PALB2 c.3113G > A (W1038X) was conducted for 779 families with multiple cases of breast cancer ascertained through family cancer clinics in Australia and New Zealand and 764 population-based controls.Results: We found five independent case probands in the population-based sample with the protein-truncating mutation PALB2 c.3113G > A (W1038X); 2 of 695 were diagnosed before age 40 years and 3 of 708 were diagnosed when between ages 40 and 59 years. Both of the two early-onset carrier case probands had very strong family histories of breast cancer. Further testing found that the mutation segregated with breast cancer in these families. No c.3113G > A (W1038X) carriers were found in 764 population-based unaffected controls. The hazard ratio was estimated to be 30.1 (95% confidence interval (CI), 7.5 to 120; P A mutation appears to be associated with substantial risks of breast cancer that are of clinical relevance. © 2010 Southey et al.; licensee BioMed Central Ltd

    Viral to metazoan marine plankton nucleotide sequences from the Tara Oceans expedition

    A unique collection of oceanic samples was gathered by the Tara Oceans expeditions (2009-2013), targeting plankton organisms ranging from viruses to metazoans, and providing rich environmental context measurements. Thanks to recent advances in the field of genomics, extensive sequencing has been performed for a deep genomic analysis of this huge collection of samples. A strategy based on different approaches, such as metabarcoding, metagenomics, single-cell genomics and metatranscriptomics, has been chosen for analysis of size-fractionated plankton communities. Here, we provide detailed procedures applied for genomic data generation, from nucleic acids extraction to sequence production, and we describe registries of genomics datasets available at the European Nucleotide Archive (ENA, www.ebi.ac.uk/ena). The association of these metadata to the experimental procedures applied for their generation will help the scientific community to access these data and facilitate their analysis. This paper complements other efforts to provide a full description of experiments and open science resources generated from the Tara Oceans project, further extending their value for the study of the world's planktonic ecosystems

    Numerical simulation using computers or computational simulation has become a very important approach for solving complex practical problems in engineering and science. Numerical simulation translates important aspects of a physical problem into a discrete form of mathematical description, recreates and solves the problem on a computer and reveals phenomena virtually according to the requirements of the analysts. Rather than adopting the traditional theoretical practice of constructing layers of assumptions and approximations, numerical approach attacks the original problems in all detail without making too many assumptions. This is an alternative tool for engineers but numerical techniques are not enough in a case where the computing environment is heterogeneous and unreliable. Mobile agent is a software technology which allows engineer to add new properties to a numerical computing.     National audienceThe subject of this contribution is about use of formal specification in order to prove business properties of a mobile agent system. First, we can be described this kind of system by the use of process algebra, in particular the π-calculus language. Then, from such formal specification, we can generate semi automatically automata using an XML transformation. Finally, we compute acceptance graph to validate a formal property. This validation is assisted by the use of a tool such Uppaal from Aalborg university
